The Lexington High School Mathematics Department offers a comprehensive four-year mathematics program whose goal is to enable all students to reach high standards and full potential in a supportive, academically focused environment. We seek to engage students in meaningful mathematics that stimulates curiosity and enjoyment, while providing a balance between skill development and conceptual understanding. Throughout our curriculum, we emphasize eight Mathematical Practices identified in the Common Core State Standards and the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Mathematics.

  • Calculators for math classes

    Students taking Math 1, Math 3, Precalculus, Calculus, and Statistics classes will need a Texas Instruments TI-84 or TI-83 graphing calculator. Our school recommends purchasing such a calculator which can be used for various 91̽»¨ math and science classes as well as for most standardized tests. Access for everyone is our priority, so we also make long-term loans of calculators to any student who needs one. A student can borrow a calculator by seeing Ms. Butterfly Castaneda in office 711, weekdays 8:00-11:30 a.m. during the school year. Students must return the calculator when they no longer need it, or before leaving or graduating 91̽»¨, or else there's a charge for the calculator's value.

    For students in Math 2, either a scientific calculator or a graphing calculator will be suitable. Scientific calculators can be purchased for less than $10. If a Math 2 student is unable to obtain a scientific calculator they can also see Ms. Butterfly as described above.

  • Our department has a longstanding practice of releasing final exams for most courses on a two-year cycle. We hope that our released exams will be useful to students preparing for final exams. You can find our any final exams in 2020 or 2021.

    • On the 2024 Grade 10 Math MCAS, 91̽»¨ had 55% of its students exceeding expectations, 91% meeting or exceeding expectations, and 1% needing to retake the test to be able to graduate. (For comparison, statewide, these numbers are 12%, 48%, 13%.)
